The United States Department Of Transportation, under Title 49, has documented "Pipeline Safety Regulations" - which state that all property owners - with underground or above-ground gas piping systems - are responsible for the maintenance of their own gas distribution facilities. Therefore, all such owners are responsible for conducting leakage surveys at least once each calendar year, at intervals not exceeding 15 months. OUR LEAKAGE DETECTION PROCESS
Gas Control Technologies leakage detection process begins by determining the approximate location of the underground piping from the existing natural gas distribution system mapping. The underground natural gas system is then assessed using a flame ionization detector, which is the most technologically advanced equipment available, measuring samples as low as one part per million. When leakage is detected, a further study is performed to determine the extent of migration, and to establish a priority level. All found leakage is prioritized using the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Guide for Gas Leak Classifications, which is an industry standard for natural gas safety.
An additional service that we provide is our "leak centering" or "pinpointing" service. By locating the area of the buried natural gas pipeline, we can pinpoint the underground leakage using a combustible gas indicator which measures samples from 1 to 100 percent by volume. This allows us to determine the highest levels of concentration and "pinpoint" the leakage, providing an area for excavation. This service is beneficial when making repairs to an isolated leakage.
At the completion of the assessment, a detailed report is compiled, providing all leakage locations and gas migration patterns, with detailed location measurements with respect to buildings and other fixed reference points. Where possible, we also include our recommendations (and estimates) for pipeline repairs and/or utility replacements. OUR GOAL
Our goal is to provide a complete understanding of the underground natural gas distribution system, detecting and ultimately assisting in eliminating unknown migrating gas leakage at or near building foundations. Therefore, Gas Control Technologies Leakage Assessment Reports follow the Pipeline Safety Regulations put forth by the Department of Transportation under Title 49.
